CASE STUDY ANALYSIS
Case Study method was initially by the legal professionals .The cases were used to demonstrate the various techniques and process .This was picked up by the medical fraternity and there also the cases were used to teach the analysis ,process and technique of treatment. The cases study method tries to replicate the real life scenario and circumstances so the observation, data and the problems are all live and practical.
The case method is the most popular method of teaching in the management world and has been pioneered by the Harvard Business School.

Situation Analysis
- Give the background
- What is the case all about.? What are the problems etc.
- Circumstances- tell about the circumstances existing for example launch of a new product
- Scenario- Explain the scenario a merger happening , a threat , changing trends etc.
- Assumptions- Case will not have sufficient information. You need to assume certain things. Please mention them before hands but be careful you need to justify these assumptions..
Problem Statement
- 1-2 sentences that appropriately, succinctly and accurately describe the problem that firm is facing. The market share of the product is dropping could be one of the problem. Or it could be that Even the sales are increasing but the profitability is decreasing.
- You MUST be able to deal with this problem within the rest of the case write-up, so make it detailed and workable to that extent.
- Remember you should not confuse the problem and the symptoms, the problem could be that sales are decreasing but it could be because of low quality, inadequate distribution or the incorrect price etc.

- Explains WHAT causes this problem and WHY. This part of the write-up is NOT a synopsis of case facts…
- Do NOT re-state case information without telling me WHY this is relevant, and WHAT the root causes of the problem are.
- This is the part of the write-up where students miss the most points because they simply re-state case facts Analysis
SWOT analysis.
- Strength and Weakness of the firm-internal
- Opportunity and Threat in the environment -external
Financial analysis:
- What are your key financial metrics?
- How do they fit within the industry? Are they appropriate??
- Do they signal potential concern?
- Can the company afford to pay for your recommended course of action?

Competitive analysis:
- Who are the key competitors now?
- Who do you anticipate being key competitors in the future?
- What does your 5 Forces analysis tell you?
- What can the competitors do that the company cannot?
Alignment analysis:
- Do the mission and vision statements match?
- Does your recommended course of action match the mission and vision?
- Do the company’s internal structures align with your recommended course of action?
- Does the corporate culture support your recommended course of action?

Solution Statement
- Outlining the plan for change addressing specifically the Problem Statement
- WHY your plan for a solution would work.
- The link between your Problem Statement and your recommended Solution Statement must be CLEAR
Implementation
- This is the HOW section of the write-up
- Gives specifics that flesh out your Solution Statement.
- It should specifically address the logistics and concrete details of making your solution work
Prognosis
- This tells the likelihood of success for realizing your solution.
- Usually stated as High, Moderate, Low, or Poor, and WHY you believe this to be true.
- This section also details what resources the firm needs to succeed, and the likely pitfalls it faces in implementing your Solution Statement
