COMMUNICATION – The first step to success.

Communication helps to receive or send information and develop rapport.

Two forms of communication discussed in this lesson -

  • Spoken - Tone (Rude / Polite)
  • Body Language - Style
  • Facial expressions - Frown / Smile
  • Postures - Sitting straight / Leaning forward while standing

 

English speaking helps to ..

  • express clearly,
  • develop self confidence,
  • communicate in social situation,
  • impress people get a god job

CONVERSATION - starts with an introduction.

Usually, includes your name and your background.

Introduction depends on -

  • Situation (Formal / Informal)
  • Audience (Family, Friends, Relatives, Office Colleagues, Senior People, Strangers)

Two types of Introductions -

  • Formal
  • Informal

 

I. FORMAL - is given in an office setting while introducing to office colleagues / superiors / business associates e.g. job interview, discussion with dealers, customers.

 

Objective - to give relevant details.

 

Remember:

-- In a formal introduction give ‘Relevant Details’ e.g. Full Name, Designation /title or any other similar information.

-- Give your name first and then ask the other person’s name.

-- Address the other person as ‘Mr’. or ‘Miss’ and mention the second name.

-- DO NOT share any personal details like-pet name or about your family etc.-

-- DO NOT ask details of your superiors.

Examples -

Formal Introduction for a working person - Refer Slide 20.

Formal Introduction for a student or nonworking person - Refer Slide 21.

 

II. INFORMAL - is given while introducing to relatives / friends / strangers. e.g. while introducing yourself to a new friend.

 

Objective - to create a rapport.

 

Remember:

-- In an informal introduction you-

    1. give your ‘First Name’
    2. share ‘Personal Details’
    3. ask about ‘Interest/hobby’
    4. talk on ‘Common Topics’

-- Address the other person with the first name.

-- DO NOT ask very personal questions when you meet somebody for the first time.
