POSSESSIVE CASE OF NOUNS

E.g: “Hari broke Ram’s umbrella.”

Here the umbrella belonged to Ram. It is Ram who possessed the umbrella. The noun Ram becomes Ram ’s - we add “’ s”.

  • When the noun is singular, we only add “’s”. E.g: “Hari broke Ram’s umbrella.”
  • When the noun is plural and does not end with ‘s’ we add “’s”. E.g: “I have a week’s holiday”.
  • When the plural ends with ‘ s’ we add “’ ” after the s of the word. E.g: “A boys’ school.”

Incase of non-living things we say :

  • The leg of the table - not the table’s leg.
  • The hand of the clock - not the clock’s hand

COLLECTIVE NOUNS

  • A group of lions – Pride, A collection of books – Library, A large number of students - Class

  • Spices - turmeric, bay leaf, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, cumin seeds, aniseed.

  • The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."
  • “When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world”
