VAS
VAS( Value Alignment Scale)- Introduction

Human Life is intelligent - and Life unfolds intelligently. We can say the whole universe is knowledge driven.

As human beings, our actions, the way we think, and also the emotions we feel, depend upon knowledge. Each of us has a particular orientation towards knowledge that is unique to us. That is why even when the situation is same, different people will respond differently to it .

Our knowledge orientation is innate inborn and natural to us. We can say we are the way we are constituted, will shape our thinking, actions and even emotions Therefore the kind of decisions we take, our career choices, hobbies and interests, the people we like and even the way we spend our time depends on our knowledge orientation.

VAS is an assessment instrument that identifies four basic types of knowledge orientations that people have. These are:

1. Knowledge Generators
2. Knowledge Coordinators
3. Knowledge Users
4. Knowledge Servers

VAS is a standardized scale with a well-established reliability. It has been field tested in a number of sectors to establish its validity. (It is inspired by the wisdom of The Bhagawad Gita ):

IMPORTANT NOTE

Every human being possesses all four knowledge orientations, but one of them will be dominant. The dominant knowledge orientation should guide the career choices and important decisions that we take in life. The remaining three and less dominant knowledge orientations play an essential but supporting role .

Careers, professions and job choices can be classified along the four types of knowledge orientations. For example an academic or consultancy position requires Knowledge Generators; while event managers or project management require Knowledge Coordinators. Business and trading will do well with Knowledge users etc. It is important to note that the other three orientations will facilitate the dominant knowledge orientation of a person.

Success and excellence depends upon three criteria:

1. To know and be conscious of our dominant knowledge orientation
2. Make career choices that have a good fit with our knowledge orientation.
3. Use the non-dominant knowledge orientations to play a facilitative and supporting role.
